Like solo Gwen Stefani resurrected from the depths of Harajuku, British synth-pop star-in-the-making Tiny Dancer is all infectious punch and effortless cool, an artist with both a raw, frenetic artistry and a glimmering pop sheen. The petite pop princess creates sticky-sweet, eccentric ear candy that recalls the howling, primal quirk of 80′s new-wave, but with a modern electronic twist.

Her teasingly-titled debut EP, ‘Who Am I,’ produced by Wayne Wilkins, is just as mystical as it sounds to be, at least according to the two songs released off it so far. Title track and lead single “Who Am I?” is a twinkly slice of tribal electro pop, with a frantic chorus and rhythmic beats that bury deep into the brain.

And the second track, “Skies To Blue,” is an equally infectious song, but for different reasons. “Skies To Blue” is a sweeping, hopeful electro-pop ballad, with a heartfelt vocal delivery reminiscent of Niki and the Dove, and dazzling flourishes of glittery electronics.

Luckily, Tiny Dancer is just as interesting visually as her music. Case in point? Take a look at the quirky, ethereal, and impressive one-take music video for “Who Am I,” below:

A little bit whimsical, a little bit conceptual, the delightfully enigmatic music of Tiny Dancer is all mesmerizing. Visit Tiny Dancer on Facebook here to learn more.

Atmospheric electronic production, meteoric synths, and a haunting, folksy voice mark Australian electro-pop artist Phebe Starr as one to watch very closely. Especially so if her shimmering debut single, “Alone With You,” is any indication. The artist’s stirring vocals are powerful without being pushy, raw with emotion and rife with the intimacy that so few artists are generous enough to share with listeners.

“Alone With You” is a compelling slice of indie synth-pop, with rousing church organ chords and otherworldly synths that propel the artist’s emotive vocals into the stratosphere. Thumping kick drum loops help to ground the track.

The track has also been given the video treatment with an cosmic black and white clip in which Phebe stars as a lonely space princess stranded on a planet. It’s beautiful in its simplicity and cosmic scenery. Take a look:

If you’re in NYC and want to catch this engaging artist live, check her out at The Paper Box in Brooklyn tonight at 6 PM. For more information on Phebe Starr, visit her on Facebook here.

She’s only in her teens, but the spry 16-year-old New Zealand artist who goes by the name of Lorde crafts thoughtful pop music that is well beyond her years. Swathed in mystery since her debut EP ‘The Love Club‘ premiered on iTunes back in the fall of 2012, the spritely, tangle-haired artist crept up into the music blogosphere with a slow and steady pace, only recently releasing an actual photo of herself. But now it would seem, since an endorsement from Grimes and some very telling press, a slow rise is no longer in the cards.

If anything, Lorde – aka Ella Yelich O’Connor – should be gearing for meteoric elevation once ‘The Love Club’ debuts properly in the Stats this upcoming June. Her songs are spirited, easy to relate to, but also effortlessly cool. She is a skilled wordsmith as well, with a vulnerable, enchanting vocal ability. Music devotees will salivate at the electro-folksy production and the veil of mysticism shrouding the artist.

There’s an underlying earthiness to Lorde’s music, a self-awareness that is both regal and warm. Her music is confident and endearing; brash and bold, but never bratty as found in some of her contemporaries’ work. Perhaps due to geographical isolation, it’s hard to find a parallel to Lorde’s unique sound. In short it’s harmony-driven, dreamy, bouncy, and bewitching.

For just a taste of what Lorde has to offer, check out her buzzy track “Royals,” a finger-snapping, jazzy pop vignette on our youth’s obsession with fame and wealth. Basically, it’s the anti-rap song, a wry finger-pointing criticism of the empty fantasies and entitlement of modern pop culture. Take a listen:

New York singer and dance-pop artist Miasha is giving off major Cher-circa-”Believe” vibes on her debut single “Everybody’s Beautiful.” The powerhouse pop track is a culmination of powerful diva vocals, uplifting lyrics, and euphoric 90′s inspired house beats that make for blissful, infectious dance-floor rapture.

Miasha, with her big, operatic voice, is the perfect mix of Annie Lennox, Cher, and Lady Gaga, her music soulful, resonant, and inspirational, much like the video for “Everybody’s Beautiful” itself, below:

Trip-hop returns in 2013, and it returns in the form of gorgeous LA-based singer-songwriter Banks! Banks, who has been slowly circulating the blogosphere over the past few weeks, is still fairly underground, so there’s not muchknown about her than her moniker and that she crafts incredible electronic pop.

Moody, haunting, and sultry, Banks’ sound is a unique mixture of electro, smart pop, and slightly creepy trip-hop, the sonic lovechild between Lana Del Rey and Massive Attack. Her debut single, “Before I Ever Met You,” is a perfect introduction to Banks’ signature sound, all dark beats, and brooding, pouty vocals. Take a listen:
